NYCDOT - Staten Island Ferry

SMSLLC worked with SIF to develop and implement their industry-leading Safety Management System. SMSLLC continues to provide SMS support and auditing services to the SIF.

NOAA's ship fleet provides hydrographic surveys, oceanographic and atmospheric research, and fisheries research vessels to support NOAA's strategic plan elements and mission. SMSLLC provides operational risk assessments, regulatory analysis, and internal auditing services to NOAA.

Military Sealift Command

Military Sealift Command is the leading provider of ocean transportation for the Navy and the rest of the Department of Defense – operating approximately 110 ships daily around the globe. SMSLLC supports audit program implementation as well as miscellaneous research and risk-assessment-based assignments.

The Steamship Authority

The Steamship Authority (SSA) is the largest ferry service to the Islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket from Cape Cod. SMSLLC has worked with the SSA to develop and implement a combined safety and quality management system.

KPFF Consulting Engineers

KPFF is a multi-office, multi-discipline engineering firm. SMSLLC provides management system auditing as well as risk and operational system assessments for KPFF clients.

Seastreak

Seastreak provides daily year-round ferry services from Atlantic Highlands and Highlands, NJ, to Pier 11 Wall Street, East 35th Street, and shuttle service to the World Financial Center. SMSLLC worked with Seastreak to develop their voluntary ISM Code-certified safety management system. SMSLLC provides Seastreak with internal auditing and management system support services.

Crowley, founded in 1892, is a privately-held, U.S.-owned and operated logistics, government, marine and energy solutions company headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. SMSLLC worked to combine and streamline Crowley's ATB and Tanker safety management systems into one holistic system.

Starr Companies

STARR Marine is a leading marine insurer offering products affecting ocean cargo, marine liability and hull coverage. SMSLLC has been involved on several initiatives that are beneficial to STARR and its insureds within the US towing vessel industry.

Moran

Since 1860, Moran has been assisting ships, towing vessels, transporting liquid and dry bulk cargo, and servicing LNG terminal ventures. SMSLLC helped streamline Moran's existing safety management system, making it more user-friendly and effective.

SMSLLC also assists Moran with implementation of its internal audit program.

NYC DEP Marine Section

The NYC-DEP Marine Section currently uses three sludge vessels for the transportation of liquid sludge from its four wastewater treatment plants that do not have dewatering capabilities.

Mediterranean Shipping Company

MSC contracted SMSLLC to harmonize individual management systems into a single system in support of operating a combined fleet of over 800 ships.

MSC staff in Geneva, Sorrento, and Limasol worked with the SMSLLC project team to develop consistent and streamlined standards consistent with ISM Code requirements and related regulations.

US Ocean Fleet Management is a leading provider of worldwide transportation solutions for automobiles, oversized, overweight, and hazardous cargoes. US Ocean manages Pure Car Pure Truck (PCTC) and Heavy Lift Fleets.

VCL stands out for its focus on small-ship cruising, personalized service, and distinctive itineraries that explore America’s waterways—delivering an intimate, enriching travel experience. SMSLLC has supported VCL by streamlining management system documentation and delivering internal audit services both onboard and across its shore-based operations.

Government of Bermuda Department of Marine & Port Services

DMPS operates workboats, pilot launches, aids to navigation tenders, and passenger vessels within Bermuda waters. SMSLLC has assisted DMPS to develop management systems appropriate to each type of vessel operation and provides internal management system audit services.

Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC) is the largest oil spill removal organization in the United States, providing nationwide OSRO coverage. Established in 1990, it operates as a not-for-profit with U.S. Coast Guard classification in all Captain of the Port zones except Alaska. SMSLLC conducted a marine operations safety assessment, delivering targeted recommendations.

Fairwater

Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Fairwater operates vessels primarily in the Jones Act trade. SMSLLC provides support for security regulatory requirements.

Golden Gate Ferry

Golden Gate Ferry is a division of the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District. The Ferry provides service around the San Francisco Bay Area. SMSLLC has provided regulatory support and safety management system development services.

NYC EDC

NYC Economic Development Corporation is responsible for the NYC Ferry, which provides passenger ferry services for all city boroughs. SMSLLC provides second party auditing services and regulatory consulting services.

Hartree Asset Management

Hartree has operated globally in energy and commodities markets since 1997. Positioned at the forefront of the wholesale energy sector, the firm brings significant insight and experience to its operations. SMSLLC has supported Hartree through the assessment and refinement of OSHA- and EPA-related policies and procedures impacting a small refinery operation.

American River Transportation Company

ARTCo operates a fully integrated transportation network across the inland waterways, including one of North America’s largest covered hopper barge fleets, an extensive harbor services network, linehaul towing vessels, and a major Gulf Coast stevedoring operation. SMSLLC supported ARTCo in achieving USCG Subchapter M certification through the development of a tailored Towing Safety Management System (TSMS) and an in-house vessel survey program.

ARC

American Roll-On Roll-Off Carriers, the leading U.S.-flag Ro-Ro carrier, contracted SMSLLC to develop an ISM compliant management system.

ARC provides international port-to-port transport of heavy vehicles, helicopters and other equipment for the U.S. government as well as commercial break-bulk and Ro-Ro customers. ARC is a participant in the U.S. Government’s Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Program.

Boston Duck Tours

Boston Duck Tours provides iconic sightseeing tours on both land and sea to customers around Boston. SMSLLC has provided Boston Duck Tours with safety procedure development and auditing services.

Boston Ship Repair

Located outside of Boston, MA, Boston Ship Repair offers repair and installation services for ships from its 1,150-foot graving dock, which can accommodate some of the largest ships in the world.

SMSLLC has worked with Boston Ship Repair to develop an ISO 9001 Quality Management System, which meets the needs of the company and its customers.

Alaska Tanker Company

As of 2020, Alaska Tanker Company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (NYSE: OSG) following OSG’s acquisition of equity interests previously held by Keystone and BP. SMSLLC has supported ATC by delivering SQE internal audit services both onboard its tankers and across its shore-based operations.

Genesis Marine

Genesis Marine is a trusted provider of Jones Act marine transportation services, operating a diverse fleet of inland and offshore vessels, barges, and an ocean-going tanker. The fleet safely transports crude oil and intermediate refined products to refineries and terminals across the Gulf Coast, East Coast, Great Lakes, Intracoastal Waterway, and major U.S. river systems. SMSLLC has supported Genesis Marine by delivering management system internal audit services.
